I think this is Clerodendrum trichotomum.

I have seen this as a shrub and not as a tree. Might be able to make it look like one though with a snip here and there.

I was stopped in my tracks when I saw this in a garden and am longing to plant one in mine. The one I saw was tree sized but perhaps had been left to do it's own thing.

You're welcome. Cant grow it here sadly...too cold and windy. I expect the one you saw was just a very mature specimen. Hope it does well for you!
