Hello. My dwarf weeping willow has so faar failed to produce any buds this year (it is now mid April). Is it dead? I've tried cutting a few branches to see if there is any green in them, but it's difficult to tell! Should I wait any longer... or just dig it up?

The green part will appear just below the surface of the bark so if you just scratch with your fingernail it should show. I do have to say that if it hasn't started to bud by now then would be close of play.

mmm, I suspect it is dead. scrape away a bit of bark if green it is alive if brown it is dead. test several stems as it may still be alive lower down. if dead dig it out.

Even my Crepe Myrtle tree has fat swollen buds - it's a lazy late bloomer. By now, you should see some evidence of growth, life as are most trees if you look around your area.

How do I say thanks?
