Can Gorse ever be sterile?
Out walking today (North Wales), I saw lots of Gorse in flower. Then came to a whole hillside of Gorse that was just leaves, no flowers or flower buds. It was decent sized, 2 to 3 foot high. Sorry no photo. Any ideas?
Thanks, Maria

It was probably Western gorse Ulex gallii rather than the more common one. It occurs generally on the West coast. It s main flowering is much later than the more common one, around July time. I'd never heard of it until we came to live in West Wales.
