Jasmine climber

Hi. I have recently built a pergola and would like to train an evergreen climber along the beams. I had considered Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides). Can this be planted in pots suspended at height between 2 of the pergola trusses? The gap between the trusses is 100mm and 150mm deep. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks, Alex.

welcome to GoY,
I agree with bamboo, the plant needs to be in the ground. you could add a mess over the gaps of wires so the plant clings to that.

Protecting hanging baskets from freezing in the winter would be quite a project, too.

No climber will achieve its full growth potential contained in a pot - they should be planted in the ground and trained up the vertical posts, then across the top. Trachelospermum jasminoides, whilst slow to get going, will eventually achieve a height of around 30 feet by about 12 feet planted in the ground. However, from looking at your picture, there aren't enough horizontal slats to support a plant, it will sag down in the large gaps because they're too far apart. At least that's how it looks from the photo posted, though you could lay mesh across to remedy that.
