The dreaded Japanese Beetle
United States
Have a couple of bag a bugs at the edges of my property that have helped a little but not near enough. I have various sand cherry shrubs scattered around my courtyard fence and a rose bush that are being seriously assaulted by our friendly neighborhood pests. I have also used malthion solution to irritate them but they return when the malthion washes off. Is there a chemical that can be applied to the root system of plants safely that is absorbed into the plant and deters beetles either by scent or by taste? Or is there a chemical that effectively adheres to the plant topically that will keep the beetles away long enough that they move on? Any help from my gardening brethren would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Brunswickscott,
Go to 'Flcrazy' members page 3 - she has been plagued by Japanese Beetles and has some useful tips on their eradication (or not). Flcrazy is from North Carolina so may be more familiar with chemicals etc your side. You can email her direct or via the photo comments. Good luck.
