We have a flowering cherry tree with red leaves which is at least twelve years old and until two years ago was really healthy and produced masses of pink flowers. Last Spring 2016 we had very little blossom and the leaves started to fall very early Summer, this year 2017 virtually no blossom and the leaves are already falling with some branches looking dead. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what is wrong with this once beautiful tree and is there a solution?
Thanks, Philip.

Check the trunk all over, particularly the base, and the main branches, then inspect the leaves and backs of leaves. On woody parts, you're looking for soft or soggy areas, or signs of seeping from anywhere at all, along with scale insect infestation. On the green parts, you're looking for any sign of disease such as rust or spotted areas, scale or aphid infestation under the leaves. If you find anything, post more information please.

Hi Philip and welcome to GoY, please could you post a photo of the whole tree plus a close up of the leaves. You can add these to your question.
