Many wild forms of the Genus Prunus produce thorns, including some forms of Prunus x domestica--European plums, greengages, and damsons. Around here we usually use forms of peach to graft apricots on, but plums are certainly possible, and may even be preferable in colder climates.

No idea but it needs removing as it certainly won't be an apricot!
