Hi I have two cordyline australis in my garden but each have about 8 branches its about 4foot high I think there is too many branches on each but also think its to drastic to cut them id u cut them can I plant the cut branch will it grow im a novice thanks

You can cut off some branches and now is a good time to do it, but you need to use a very sharp pruning saw to make clean cuts, and angle the cuts to allow rain to run off. The only trouble is, cutting off some limbs will likely mean new growth arising, either from the cut areas or from lower down the trunk or at ground level. If you don't want the new growth, clip it off as soon as it appears.
No, you won't be able to grow on the branches you cut off - sometimes, when growth arises at the base, its possible to remove it with some root attached, and that will grow, but often its difficult to get some root material with the topgrowth.
