I have the highly scented Graham Thomas yellow honeysuckle. I cut back and throw any mildewed growth early August but really go to town in spring just as the new shoots are coming through. This is a very vigorous plant so Im always trimming back shoots that have flowered and are fruiting. Once established I think this one is hard to kill whatever you do. Don't know about other types of honeysuckle.
