I've purchased a MAGNOLIA SOULANGEANA, its only 2ft tall at the moment and its growing well but its being eaten at the same time, what can I treat it with and what is it?

The bottom picture looks like snail or slug damage, while the upper pictures look like mechanical damage--probably damaged in shipping or while bringing home.
