I have a Montana clematis that I bought in April to climb up a trellis which is north facing. It grew but quite spindly. ( It is in a pot),the flowers came out and the wind blew and that was it ..gone. Nothing else seems to be happening to it. Will it grow better next year and when /if should I cut it back please

Hi
A large oak barrel would suit it better its a strong grower and also because its in a pot you have to keep well watered and fed and check every week its not dried out , it flowers spring time .
Pruning with Montana is just after it has flowered as it flowers on new stems produced this year.
