Hi everyone,
Please take a look at my photo of my runner bean plant.....whats happened? (Sorry photo on its side)
My friend who gave me the rest of the packet after she had planted hers are doing great, lush green leaves and an abundance of beans. I have fed, watered, gave it as much sunshine as this summer will allow, talked to it, checked for snails and slugs what else could I have done?

I can't completely agree with you there Bamboo. ideally they should be in the ground i know, but they also do well in pots as mine have done for years with no problems i always put news paper at the bottom of the plant pot, and water twice a day and feed twice a week with tomorite. So i don't know what you could have done wrong Docutech.

Do you grow yours in deeper pots, Tulsalady? Only that pot this one's growing in doesn't look that big, really, although I'm not prepared to turn my head sideways for a good long look, lol, can't afford the osteopathy bill.

I agree it does look a bit shallow, you made me turn side ways then and my neck cracked, lol my pots are much deeper,il have to get OH to give me a massage now.

I always thought that runner beans were hungry feeders, like sweet peas - so I'd agree that the pot is too small if Docutech has no soil to grow them in.
Poor Tulsalady! Enjoy the massage. ;-)

So, as a man, did you actually ask for a massage, or did you just sigh and rub your neck? : ))

Thank you all for your comments, so sorry about the bad necks I`ll try to get it the right way round next time. My friends pot is the same as mine we used the same beans, the same vegetable compost, the same feed - could it be a bug or fly????? As I said hers are fantastic!!!!!!!!

Not fair, is it, Docutech. Maybe if the pot was upright????lol
Sorry - couldn't resist it. It's too late to do anything this year now, but next year, I really think the soil is best for runner beans...or pinch a few from your friend, maybe?

really sorry Docutech.better luck next year, i hope your friend has given you some of hers, i still think if you can't grow them in the ground they are just as good in pots , but make sure they are big ones.upright LOL :0)

Tulsalady, I think tugbrethil's query refers to the 'fact' that men are hopeless at guessing what we want (in theory, personally I think it's willful ignorance) - ask for a massage, at least that way he hasn't got the excuse of not understanding, lol!

...and enjoy it, too! :-)))

Previous question
Oh dear - runner beans should always be in the ground, preferably in ground that's been dug out in a trench to a good spade's depth or more, then filled with well rotted compost, backfilled with soil and planted in that. Your problem is the pot.
