Hi all I've found in my garage 2 bareroot unopened tropaeolum speciosum which I bough end of March 2010.They have been kept dry and look ok. My question is although I have nothing to lose in planting these bareroots would it be best to try now in pots in the greenhouse and IF they grow plant out in spring? i.e. any advice in when and what I should do with them to get best change to reclaim this memory oss. Thanks in advance regards Michael.

By the way... Bulbaholic.. When I put them in pots now should I put these pots in the greenhouse before your suggestion next if they grow to put under a shrub?

Whilst they are fully hardy, Michael, the tuberous roots are quite fleshy. I would keep them in an unheated greenhouse to reduce the chance of the getting frozen solid. I suppose than an alternative would be to bury the pots in the soil in the garden until the end of winter.

I would suggest that you plant in deep pots now and, if they grow, put the pots beneath a suitable shrub next spring. When they die down at the end of next summer then unpot them and plant in the garden. Remember where you have put the pots and keep them watered next year.
