Can someone id this plant please. Seen at Kellie Castle Garden in Fife Scotland this week. There were some which were very pink, others which were white. Both had similar shape and colour blotches on the lower petals only.

Thank you. That was quick. I know some people do not like seeing plants labelled in gardens but it would be helpful. I like the multiplies quickly part of your answer.

You can probably get information on how to grow these from the Scottish Rock Garden Club

Doubt it Wylie this is not a rock garden plant

They do a lot with bulbs on the site. I found out about them through the Pacific Bulb Society. Since I have no idea how someone got a winter-growing South African bulb to grow off season, they might know how to do it.

Indeed we do do a lot with bulbs in the SRGC but not this particular type of bulb, even our doyen Ian Young isn't into gladiolus.

Then it makes me wonder how someone got this to bloom out of season. Mine are fast asleep and surviving on rain water.

No idea... maybe it is a winter plant for you but not in the UK?

I grow this and it usually flowers May to June. I guess it will be later in Scotland.

These were growing in a raised HP border. The bed was approx. 4' deep. I googled how to grow them and the advice was in any moist soil with good drainage. They are also deemed to be easy for a beginner. It all seems to be good news.

Good luck Scotsg.

Thank you Mg. I may plant them in a pot, type used for ponds, and if I think it is necessary I can dig up the whole pot and keep it in the cold greenhouse over the winter.
