How can I get rid of a fairy ring in my lawn. Gomaz

Hi Gomaz and welcome to GoY. Short answer is you can't, what you are seeing is the fruiting bodies on a mycelium or fungus. It will die back but reappear again.

I'm afraid that's true, there is no way of eradicating a fairy ring. Hopefully you only have a Grade 1 or 2 fairy ring, but the second does produce a paler area of grass in the centre, with a darker green ring round the outside. Keeping your lawn well fed should help to reduce the obvious difference in shades of green.

Does anyone remember using Amillatox as a garden disinfectant for honey fungus and fairy rings? Worth having a look at their website.

I remember it when I was quite young - never worked on fairy rings, but was often recommended because there was nothing else to try. I believe its been reformulated and now is just used as a moss killer and patio cleaner.

That's sad - I thought that was what you could use for honey fungus - or are those days gone?

To get rid you'd have to remove the topsoil to lower than the depth of the mycelium and start again with fresh soil. Even then no guarantees you'd get it all.

Personally I think you'd be wasting your time...

Steragram - its one foot deep and a foot either side of the fairy ring, all the way round, that you have to remove and not even a speck of the soil removed should be dropped onto the lawn when its being dug out, nor when its being taken away. Then new topsoil and turf - and it may still recur.
