Not something to be composted really, they would probably grow into new plants.

thanks guys, i will plant them when they are a little bigger and let you know if anything happens

Dab I would really advise you against planting them. They would need to be the size of a small potato and sprouting before you planted them next March time. Seed potatoes are far safer as you will not have blight in them.

I beg to differ. If there was no blight on the plants then there will be no blight on the potatoes either. We have just planted seed potaotes in the polytunnel for Xmas and New Year. We also have had a good crop this year from potatoes which lasted from last years crop. Better in fact than from the seed potatoes we bought of the same variety.

We never grow new potatoes for Xmas - with the very short day light hours I am not sure they would do much. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the keeping your own potatoes for seed for the following year Owdb. :-)

We don't normally keep them from one year to another, it just happened that we did not manage to eat them all this year and rather than throw them out we planted them.
