Well its just been eaten by something, some creature or other, probably followed by later insect activity and nature's disposal system, and this is all that's left.

Ha ha, yea, it has left an interesting shape... must have fallen a while back, maybe was damaged before it fell, which meant more life forms could demolish it.

This photo shows how the apple was lying when I found it. An even stronger work for the Turner Prize. And no, no elephant, unless he visits at night when I'm not looking.
