How fascinating. makes perfect sense of course as they are all in the same family, but I haven't ever seen potato fruit before! MG, does this mean the potatoes will be past their best?

Though they were introduced into Europe at about the same time it appears that the the tomato had an adverse doppelgänger (the fruit of the potato) which caused the people of the time of early European cultivation of these two to come to the conclusion and confusion that the tomato was poisoness too. Thank you Angie for your curiosity and thank you MG for your knowledge of this.

No the potatoes will be fine, not all varieties flower so you'll only see the fruits if you have a variety that does flower.

Perfectly normal these are the fruits of the potato and look similar to tomatoes. Do not on any account eat them as they are poisonous!
