Could anyone please tell me when is the best time to sow the seeds from Hemerocallis. I have just gathered some and don't know whether to sow them now or give them a period of cold treatment or leave it to the Spring. I planted some from Gypsy Ballerina last year but nothing happened.

Thanks Derek. I only want to see if they produce something different from the mother plant as opposed to increasing a variety. I know the common ones grow easily from seed as I have them popping up all over the garden but they will all be going this autumn as they are thugs and grow easily in the pebbles that cover a lot of the front garden.
Maybe I have answered my own question and should plant the seeds in a gritty compost now.

Hi, I think I would wait for another month or so before sowing them, Derek.

Thanks Derek.
It's probably too hot to sow them now especially as we are not getting any rain here in S W France.
Others that are setting seed will be ripe by then so will do them altogether.

Hi, Hemerocallis seed can be sown in autumn or spring, in containers in a cold frame, but only species come true, the best way to propagate is by division in spring or autumn, unless you have an evergreen species, divide these in spring, Derek.
