I spent a few hours last week clearing out a raised flowerbed, a few weeds in it but not much else as its under a conifer hedge ( which weve just had cut to half its height) the soil is quite dry and dusty so i was thinking of putting some other soil in it to perk it up a bit, should i use compost or a soil improver ( ive looked around the local B&Q) and maybe some bonemeal. Im hoping to plant some bulbs in the next few weeks.

If using compost from the B&Q, I would add some blood meal or other nitrogen source to help it to decay faster, and not rob the soil. If you want to keep the hedge, be sure to NOT raise the soil level within 2 meters of the trunks--it is easy to smother conifers.
