I have a veg patch area I now want to convert into a decking area. My concern is the large number of weeds. I am thinking of putting down a strong weed killer and then some heavy duty membrane.
Can you comment and if you agree can you recommend a weed killer and membrane.
Thanks

I was going to mention the rat problem too. Glyphosate has had a very bad press lately and beware a new version called simply G-something (a number I can't remember) in an effort to deceive people. Laying paving slabs of some kind avoids the problem - no rats and no annual coating with preservative. There are some very attractive designs available.
But if you really want decking simply cutting off the weeds at ground level and covering with a heavy duty membrane will suffice as all plants need light to survive.

well a glyphosate type of weedkiller will do the job. if you have brambles then a brush wood killer would also be recommended. then a heavy duty membrane to prevent further growth is needed as you suggest.
make sure you put the rat proof 'comb' down to stop them getting underneath and building their nests.
