My fig tree has 53 figs on, how can I get these to survive the winter?

They will probably burst open soon. Mine ripen on the tree, and then open and attract every fly and bee around. Best to try canning them.

But you are in the Azores Wylie...

I know, but doesn't fruit either ripen or become inedible by not ripening?

Yes that is true Wylie but how is canning the unripe figs going to help? Always assuming that Lyndsey has a canning machine which I certainly don't. Where are you in the UK Lyndsey? It makes big difference as to whether figs will ever ripen... for example we live in northern Scotland and as we don't have an old Victorian style walled garden there is no hope of our growing figs.

Next question
It's not usually worthwhile, Lyndsey. They refuse to ripen, once the leaves are off.
