Hi, I have planted a native mixed hedge this Spring which has taken off although its in heavy soil and very exposed to wind. I have kept it well weed free and I am intending to give it a mulch tonic of manure and wondered if I should do it now in the fall so it has the winter to filter down to the roots and afford some additional protection or should I wait till the early Spring and do it then? Thanks in advance.

So long as your manure is well rotted, i.e. at least a year preferably two, you can use it as a mulch on your hedge now. Apply a layer of mulch at least 5cm in depth and preferably a bit more. Make sure you remove any weeds prior to mulching and that the ground is moist.
