Hi do you have to wait until the stems have fell off before packing them away or can I dig them up dry then store

dig them up now but let the foliage fall away (dont pull off the tuber) then clean them and dry store them

If in pots you turn on the side and let them start to dry out when the foliage falls off , take them out the pot and clean any soil away , if you can ripen the tubers on a window sill for a couple of weeks, then you can pack away in some dry compost but keep them cool and frost free over winter ...
If in the border soil just dig them up and dry them off dont pull the stems away from the tuber as I said let them drop off
