I have to agree with MG. Unless you have a garden as large as that of a stately home, unless this is a dwarf variety, this tree will be massive. Worst still is the devastation to the foliage caused by the Horse Chestnut leaf miner which turns a beautiful tree into a sad, unsightly mess.

Thanks,I some how thought it needed to have another conkers tree nearby, darn it.Our garden if just over one and a half acres,so hopefully will be ok.Thanks for your replies, they're very much appreciated.

Hum... even at 1.5 acres I'd think twice about two horse chestnut trees... how do you plan to grow round them?

Most of the garden is just a wildlife garden.we are next to a farmers field. Also by the time they are fully grown,we will long gone i.e. Six foot under.

You, or your son, can be as impatient as you like but, is there another horse chestnut close by? This particular tree needs cross pollination so it can't self pollenate. You might also want to consider the fact that a full grown tree is 40 metres in height - not something for your average back garden!
