If this is a clematis when should it be pruned ?thank you in advance.

Realistically we do lose some of the flowers BUT the potting shed is still standing... I don't think C. alpina is a thus but C. montana, definitely. Himself has cut to the ground and still it grows like a weed, one which we love!

The leaves on your previous post look as if it could be Clematis alpina or montana or a similar spring flowering thug. By the book they should be pruned in late spring, immediately after flowering. In my garden, where they grow over the garden shed, they get butchered at any time of year when they are getting out of hand - and they still do OK.
