Please identify a large shrub from the forrest, Pacific North West. Now flowering (November 1 2017). Petals are pink with orange center. Leaves green with reddish colouring, look a little like Salal but smaller and more tender.

Its Euonymus europaeus (Spindle). The capsule fruits give it away. If you look at the branches (stems) you will see that they are square, hence spindle.

yes that is definitely a fruit of a spindle tree, Euonymus as to which species not certain but most likely E europaeus as Jimmy says..

If found in America then more likely to be Euonymus americanus than europaeus surely?

You would be able to know which variety it is if there was a clearer picture. It would seem that the American species has a textured covering to the fruit capsule while the European one is smooth.
