Uh-oh, it's happened again, GoYers! I've been sold a plant with the wrong label - again! It's labelled 'Campanula ochroleuca' which is a lovely white- flowered plant. As you can see, white it ain't. It looks a bit like a lobelia or maybe a salvia flower, and the plant height is about 15" - does anyone recognise it, please?

Thanks, MG. I'm hoping for a name, so I can see if it's a hardy plant.

Are yours hardy, please?
I've just googled the name, and I can't find it - so I'm more puzzled than ever!
Thanks for the thought, though. :-)

Salvia 'Blue Enigma' is just that, blue, I think. Is it an asymmetric flower. Looks too fleshy and smooth in the leaf to be salvia. Close-up of flower? (although the pics posted are good). Phil J

I'll have a go with our better camera tomorrow, Phil - and add one. My little camera won't go in close enough...at least, I don't think so. I could try blowing a photo up and see what happpens.

I would agree with Phil, the flower shape and the leaf would suggest this is not a Salvia. A close up of an individual flower would help greatly :-)

I think that the flower shape is very like the 'Flag Lobelias'...we're going to have a try with the Nikon....

I've just added a close-up (taken by flash of course). Does that help at all?

This is definitely a Lobelia without a shadow of doubt. The combined stamen tube and style always bend over as if you bring all fingers and thumb of your hand together to form a point, then just bend your wrist slightly to one side.

That's what I thought...thanks...If it's a 'Flag Lobelia', Fractal, it isn't reliably hardy, is it - so is there a hardy version, do you know, please?

Just trying to work out which one. Could be Pink Elephant? Reasonably hardy one too.

Oooh! I'd be pleased if it turned out to be hardy! I sent an e-mail and a photo to the Nursery today, as I can't get back there at the moment. If/when I get a reply, I'll let you know.

Thanks Spritz, will be interesting to know which it is.

They may not know, of course...it could well be that all the batch of plants were wrongly labelled, so they'll have to track back to whoever supplied them!
25 Aug, 2010
Ah well, if its any consolation, Lobelia belongs to the Campanulaceae ;-)
25 Aug, 2010
It isn't. :-(( I really fancied that white Campanula! I had just the place for it....if I decide to keep this, I have to find a good position for it. Hmmmmm...

Isn't it annoying when that happens Spritzh? I'd say salvia rather than lobelia but I could be wrong lol
