My parrot Plant has always been sat next to my Tv but I noticed since turning the heating on she went a bit wilted, I moved her away from the heat source but she doesn’t seem right, everyday I’m picking up dropped leaves, and I have noticed that some of the leave are turning yellow, anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks

I think I can see white bumps or deposits on the stems particularly, and maybe some of the leaves - inspect closely, it might have mealybug or scale or aphid infestation. Check under the leaves too... and if that one's got an infestation, it will likely have spread, or is about to, to your other plants if you have any others indoors.

I have just inspected the plant, and it’s got white fly ? it’s the only plant I have in my lounge so not sure how it’s got them, I have checked my Christmas cactus and my aloe Vera in the other rooms and they are ok. Any ideas on how to treat it? I hope it’s not going to kill my plant. Thanks for replying.

A plant that has been in one location for a long time will go into shock if you move it. Hopefully it will recover. If your plant has a mealybug infestation I would suggest its immediate removal if you have other plants in your home. The time it takes to try to eradicate it is just the time the mealybug needs to infest your other plants

You'll need to get some Bug Clear Ultra - but take the plant somewhere you can wipe down after spraying, because it will end up on furniture, carpets, cupboard doors, etc. Outdoors is best, but the shock of cold might kill it, so perhaps stand the pot on plenty of newspaper all over the floor first. Ensure you spray beneath and on top of the leaves and all stems, till run off, and try not to breath the spray in while you're doing it - an open window in the room will help to clear it away afterwards. I've resorted to using a large cardboard box before for inside spraying - put the plant in the middle, and work round it till all parts have been covered, then ditch the box outside. You may need to re-treat, check the instructions for the time lapse, I think its a week or two.

I've just noticed the children's toys in the room - make sure nothing of theirs is nearby, and that they are not in the room, or likely to enter the room for a while after spraying. Not just for this particular spray, but any spray...

You can use less heavy duty insecticide sprays, but you will then need to spray every couple of days - whitefly is the one aphid resistant to many treatments, link below for more information, but you need not worry about trying not to spray any flowers - you won't have pollinating insects indoors anyway

Looks like a toy for a very young child. Forget about treating it with insecticides of any kind. Dump it in the garbage and forget about it.

Or you could just move the plant to a room the child doesn't use for a while.Seems a pity to lose the plant if you are fond of it.
If mealybug is part of the trouble you may see little clumps of white cottonwooly stuff, which is the eggs. The insects themselves look rather like very small white woodlice. Both can be killed easily by painting with meths, but if it does have mealy bug its well to tip the plant out of the pot because it can infest the roots as well and if it has you will see traces of the white stuff stuck to the inside of the pot.

Use a simple hand sprayer and a diluted dose of washing-up liquid ; I've found this just as effective as any commercial product I've ever used . It's cheap and totally risk-free .

PS Wash the plant down after about five-minutes , as w/up liquid contains salts and other compounds not particularly beneficial to the plant .
I've blasted mealy bugs off my greenhouse plants using the same method .

It DOES work !

What dilution do you use Derek? And I assume you use a biological one?
