Yes...but not willy nilly. Your best bet is to find a skilled arborist who knows how to do height reduction pruning, and avoid the chum in the old lorry who says, "Trim yer trees for 10 quid, guvner!"
I could tell you how to do it yourself, but I would have to see pictures of the tree structure to give good advice.
