i would like to know what these are i have been told they are edible they grow all along the hedgerows and grass verges where i live, they resemble plums in texture and grow wild like a bramble or elderberry?

Hi Blackburn welcome to Goy, we'd have a better chance at identifying them with a leaf and also of the whole shrub--- wouldn't like to inadvertantly poison you!

It is a small plum relative, can't remember the name, but we pick them up regularly from the verge in the village and eat them.

Yes, I agree with Ilex. I recently identified some for someone I have done some work for. The French bottle them and preserve them in brandy. They don't do things by half do they Lol.
