I have just started using a.large planter to grow veg .I have put three 120ltr bails of multi purpose compost in and one 100 ltr bail of Irish moss peat I have since read peat is no good for plants ,will it be ok or will I have to do something to grow good veg

You may need to add a bit of limestone to grow cole crops, since the peat is acid, and soil that is too acid makes them susceptible to diseases like club root.

Peat alone isn't good for plants. It's normally used for water retention. I think your ratio of peat to compost is ideal for growing anything.
