should soil be improved when planting box plants

Answers

If nothing's been added to your soil for some years in terms of well rotted manure or compost, your soil should be improved with the addition of it whatever you're intending to plant.

As Buxus are naturally understorey trees/shrubs, just think leaf mould. Yes, add plenty of organic material when planting but work it thoroughly into the soil, don't just dig a hole and fill it especially if your soil is heavy.
