how much root space does it need

On plant Akebia quinata

Answers

Like most climbers, a good cool root run, and it's amazing how far under patio stones and along brickwork (without causing damage) climbers' roots will run. A good start, e.g. into a hole twice the depth of the pot, and twice the width, with the room to make good root growth and with no concrete under that to limit it and prevent it from accessing enough moisture, should be good enough.
