I 'd do as Spritz says except I leave mine with about 12" dead stems to offer a little winter protection from the frosts.

Hallo Hammerman and welcome to GOY. I cut the first dead heads back to the first leaves, and they've all flowered again. I shall carry on doing that until they've stopped completely, and then cut the flower stems back to the base.
Hope that helps.
