could anyone please identify this fruit ,i have the tree on my allotment with lots of the fruit on it ..wondered if it is edible, the fruit is about 3/4 of an inch in size .joan ..

thank you Fractal,they do look a little like a cherry..not seen or heard of them before, as i said we inherited the tree..better get some brandy now eh .:o))

This is a common one this year!
They are Myrobalan's or Mirabelle's in French. Over here we call them Cherry Plums, though they are not quite either. They are usually sweet enough to eat (depending on variety). The French bottle them in brandy!
