Hi, although Gerbera are perennials, at best they're half hardy, there are about 40 species, which vary from half hardy to frost tender, so I would use them as summer bedding, they make good cut flowers if you have enough flowers ready at the same time, some tend to flower 1 flower at a time.
The Rose, [I'm presuming that it is a patio rose], I would also treat as a summer decoration, although they can overwinter, they don't seem to be as florif'erous in subsequent years, Derek.
