This is caused by wet weather or heavy watering after a dry spell. Usually this happens to the thin skinned tomatoes which are often some of the most tasty.
It's a nuisance, but the only thing you can do is to pick them just under ripe and ripen them off indoors, otherwise pick them as soon as the skin splits and eat them up before mould starts growing at the split.
