I have a potful of young digitalis (last year's seeds) and was about to pot them up when it occurred to me that it might be better to plant them where I want them to grow. Any advice would be welcome.

I planted seeds in a pot last year, then planted out 2-3inch seedlings, the plants are MASSIVE at the moment, they’ll flower next year.

Thankyou Greenfingers, I shall do as you did although my plants are far from massive. i think now that I should have put them in the ground a lot earlier.

I'm just about to do the same. Bit wary of slugs with something so tender

As Steragram says, they don't respond well to being moved. That leads to the folklore that fairies live in the flowers and are made homeless by moving the plant.

How do they do against molluscs though?

Never found a ny slug damage on them.

slugs tend to leave them alone in my garden.

I've just got back from a 5 day stay in Wales helping daughter to settle in for a year. I will have to check the garden in the daylight. I don't suppose OH has watered any of the plants in pots!

Next year why not just leave them to self seed in situ and weed out the ones you don't want?

Thanks again to everyone. Stera I have left some from last year in the ground. This year's are still appearing and they never seem to grow naturally in my beds. They do like the gravelled area though.
