Do penstemons get blackspot? I have some young plants that are in an open cold frame that are near flowering and have noticed a few black spots on the leaves (they were mail order so I like to see the flower colour before planting out!!).

Well I hope it isn't botrytis - advice with that is to remove and destroy affected plants, so hopefully it isn't that... just wait and see how bad they get.

Not really, if you're thinking of black spot as in roses - they do get foliar diseases though - botrytis leaf mould causes dark brown spots.
