Its difficult to say for sure without a picture, if the black is on the bottom end of the peppers it could be blossom end rot which isthe result of a calcium deficiency, if the blackness is not confined to the bottom end area and is also on the plant itself it could be Blight, this is a fungus and any material with this fungus should be burnt.
