I have successfully harvested Christmas Potato Nicola. I was in two minds due to some adverse reviews but am glad I tried it and can strongly recommend. Just one thing, there was a poor harvest from the last container for some reason, only 11 of different sizes. The previous one had been harvested a couple of days earlier. I usually get at least 20 spuds from three tubers per bag but was disappointed with the final result. Any ideas why? Every container was treated exactly the same.

if one plant had 5 potatoes and the other 4 then the 4 would probably be bigger as the plants resources were shared by 4 not 5. But each plant is different as Bathgate says and some variation between the same variety is to be expected.

Thanks both of you for your usual insight. I have to conclude that I was just unlucky getting three less productive tubers in one container.

It's about natural selection or the quality of the spud which was planted. Not all spuds are created equal.
