What leaf is this? It is about 6 inches long?
The plant has been trained into an espalier type shape and tiedto a frame but most of the branches are bare. These 3 leaves are on one branch and a few leaves on another.

I've seen indoor ficus - weeping kind that fall to bits with a draft. I haven't seen lobed leaves before?
The leaves are glossy at first I thought it was part of the castor oil plant next to it before I countedthe lobes and traced it to the trunk/stem.

Hi Bizzyb - this isn't castor oil but I do have one in the border. We'vealways had them at my mam's house. It was years before we found out about ricin - lucky none of us kids tried to eat it lol

I think you were right first time Moon Grower. Fatsia japonica has pointier lobes on the leaves. I'm sure this is a fig leaf.

I agree, you were right first time Mgoon Grower. This is Ficus carica (common eating Fig).

Wow. What are the chances of a fruit in Scotland - even the barmy hazy East coast lol.

Thanks Beattie & Fractal - glad I'm not losing my marbles completely! Pam I would be extremely surprised if your fig fruited unless you pot it up and put in a conservatory or heated greenhouse.

Against a south facing sunny wall, quite probably good to be honest, at least if its the variety Brown Turkey.
