Chikko when they are ripe they will part from the tree very easily, if you have to pull them at all they are not ready. You live in the south Cristina we live in the north of Scotland there can be as much as a months difference between ripening of fruit crops.

Yup, same as there can be a months difference in being able to plant. But as we have more light in summer than you do it isn't a problem. Incidentally I checked our Victoria plum tree today and the first plums are 'just' ripe! Huge crop weight of the plums actually broke one branch.

In mid summer it is 'dark' for 2 or 3 hours here. Go up to Thurso and it doesn't really get dark at all. Conversely in mid winter the sun does not rise until nearly 9am and sets again around 3pm. This is one of the reasons why those of us who live up north fight the idea of permanent BST.

BST is British Summer Time which most English people seem to think it would be a good idea to have all year round. Mr MB and I live 20 miles east of Inverness. Thurso is only slightly less far north than John O'Groats
