Why have some of my outside grown toms gone black at the bottom? If I put brown bags round the good ones will it help them go red?

It's called 'blossom end rot' Sadie, and the usual cause is irregular watering. Take off some of the lower leaves from your plants to help them ripen, and/or you could pick the larger ones and ripen them indoors in a paper bag with a ripe banana in it - yes, honestly!
