Daffodil leaves. My daffodil leaves ( including early tete a tete) have just started to fall over but most are still upright with no signs of yellowing. I once read that as long as they have had 6 weeks post flowering they are Ok to cut down but all TV and online gardeners advocate leaving till leaves yellow. I need room now for bedding plants. What is opinion on GOY? BTW most of tulips have yellowed and are easy to pull off.

I would say that you could pull the leaves now if they come away easily without disturbing the bulbs. The only thing is that the bulbs may not flower as well next year without letting them die down completely without building up their full strength.

Well, I'll say the ones I cut early last year, came up blank this year. Maybe just one or two blooms when I was expecting droves of color. I'm going to wait until they turn brown, then cut.

What I did only yesterday was to gather them into bunches , lay them flat and put a stone on them to hold the down. Choose the smallest stone that will do the job so as not to hamper sap flow.
When the bedding plants are in you don't really notice the daffodil leaves, and its only a temporary measure after all.

Stera that would look more aesthetically pleasing but would inhibit photosynthesis which is the whole point. The leaves need as much sun exposure as possible. I know it's ugly and I tore a few bunches out of the ground and discarded the whole lot.

Leave them alone and plant your bedding around them. When they finaly yellow and go soft then is the time to tidy them. I never remove any of the daffodil leaves in our garden at all but leave them to rot off and add a bit of humus to the soil.

Bath the way I have done it leaves the leaves in full light except for about a max of 2" where the little stone sits.
But I have only done it for small clumps to keep them out of the way of the bedding- would not use this method for large ones The flowers were over a long time ago and the leaves are poor little things by now! I have never cut them off at all - when they are quite finished you can just pick them up.
