daughter has seen these in Ikea but didn't notice a name tag. main concern for her is is it poisonous to cats. without a name I cant help her.

It looks like it might be a Curcuma - one of the ornamental gingers. Maybe C. australasica, the one that produces flowers with foliage and blooms into the fall, or a hybrid. C. longa is also known as Turmeric.
