Hello "Bamboo". Many thanks for the answer. The purple flowers and the white flowers are on their own "new wood" stems, however they are both growing out of the same "old wood" stem below where I cut last year.

Well, two plants for the price of one then! Some genetic info in the 'old wood' stem is for white, the other for black knight - guess you could call it chimerism.
