Blank Daffodils? Why does this happen? Last Spring an entire patch of daffodils came up blank - no flowers. I know the squirrels don't bother them. If I relocate them, would they bloom next spring? Should I ditch them? Here is a pic from the previous year.

I give them a splash of fish fertilizer when they break ground (pic above) diluted a capful to a 5 gallon bucket. I have them planted in my driveway with my house and my neighbor's house on either side. I wonder if they get enough sun?

Daffodils often grow naturally in woodland so probably not a sun issue.
I had a year when a lot of mine were blind. That year I after the few flowers were finished I sprayed all the leaves with a generous helping of liquid feed and the next year they were OK again. Also as Seaburngirl says resist the temptation to tidy them up by cutting or tying down the leaves.
Feeding when they first appear will not do nearly as much good as waiting until the flowers are over and watering the leaves then.

The ground is very rich naturally so I don't think they lack fertilizer.

Bulbs not deep enough?

How deep should they be planted?

about 3 times the height of the bulb. so a 2" bulb needs to be about 6" deep.

Thanks Eileen. That's what I thought. I relocated them. They were the only crop to not flower so maybe they'll like the new location.

Do you feed the foliage after they have flowered? do you tie up or cut the foliage down before 6weeks after flowering?
Usually they make the flower in the 6-8 weeks after they have flowered. so a good feed with a foliar feed or granules sprinkled round the plants as they are flowering [watered in if no rain] should sort them.
was the foliage normal or distorted? We have a fly called Narcisuss bulb fly that lays an egg and the grub eats out the center and therefore the flower of the bulb. The bulbs are then very poor with little or damaged leaves.
its worth seeing if they flower in the spring. if they don't flower then you could always dig them up and replace them.
