Hi Alblack and welcome to GoY if you are wanting to grow veg. check out my blogs (click on my avatar to get to them). If the lawn has only just been dug up you will need to be working the area this autumn to improve the fertility with compost or well rotted manure. Lots of veg. are very hungry and need a good humus rich soil. Having dug the area over and added the compost you could also sow a green manure such as clover or field beans that you would leave to grow over winter and then dig in next spring.

Are you wanting vegetables, not ornamental plants?
